The separation of fruit helps to prolong its shelf life as different fruits have different maturing times and already-ripened fruit speed up the maturation of other fruits.
A simple and practical approach to store and display fruits and veggies and it favours their duration. The shallowness of the containers encourage fruit to breathe and not to get squashed by overloading the fruit bowl. Different sizes allow for compositions, grouping or separation of different size, colour and ripeness of fruits and veggies. The size of the overall composition and quantity of containers is determined by the amount of fruit desired.

A disintegrated fruit bowl as a composition of containers, fruits and vegetables.
It is delightful to change compositions as Portafrutta is reduced in size as the fruit diminishes, and grows when there is more fruit.
In this way one is not left with just one fruit in a large fruit bowl.
The first edition pictured here are in reclaimed fruit crate wood found in farmers markets and have a wax finish.
A second edition was produced in 2019 in cedar wood.
