The 240 m2 multi-brand area, one of the 3 areas commissioned by Rinascente to CARA \ DAVIDE, was completely transformed from its previous layout by removing all internal dividing walls and shop fronts, moving away from the enclosed shop-in-shop layout and opening it up into one unique space to allow a flow of movement between the various brands.
"We worked on an overall idea of lightness, it was important to create the idea of a large, unique and continuous space that is immediately perceived without barriers and visual obstacles," says Cara Judd, co-founder of studio CARA \ DAVIDE.
An idyllic feeling emerges through a soft and neutral palette with bespoke textures as the space extends in length and is characterised by floating and suspended elements that delineate the spaces within its larger shell.

The idea was to keep the space as light and open as possible. We schematically divided the space and then softened the rigidity with a neutral palette and organically textured finishes.
Aluminium tubes in a satin champagne finish suspended from the ceiling lightly and schematically divide the spaces between the brands and double as hanging space so the clothing themselves become a soft dividing element.
“Hanging the rails from the ceiling allowed us to keep the floor free, and we could introduce another graphic element; the hammered steel basins placed in a repetitive manner create a feeling of continuity and coherency in the space,” explains Davide Gramatica, co-founder of studio CARA \ DAVIDE.
The schematic layout and strong graphic elements which characterise the space are softened against a textured backdrop. Shell-coloured terrazzo, chunky plaster and brushed metal in cool and warm finishes create a soft shell for the open plan retail space.
