The XS collection is composed of unique sides tables and benches in rolled aluminium sheets with oversized proportions. Special emphasis is given to the tig welding as it is characteristic to aluminium processing.

Aluminium Studies
CARA \ DAVIDE Editions
2020
An ongoing research in aluminium as a material and it's characteristics in production.
Defined by simple but highly expressive geometries, XS collection investigates the potential of sheet aluminium and portrays manual tig welding as a decorative ornament.
In these furnishings, the two-dimensional raw material is transformed into furniture and accessories through the manual processing of cutting, folding, calendering and ultimately welding with Tig technology (Tungsten Inert Gas).
It is this last step that fascinates the designers the most to the point of making it a predominant feature.
They tell us: “For the XS collection we focused on welds…
…Working on a material or technology also means investigating the perceptual aspect, the sensations it arouses, not exclusively considering the technical needs."
Of all the processing stages, welding is also the one that requires the most skill, especially if done on aluminium. The human contribution of the welder is so characteristic that the welding can even be traced back to who performed it: a personal trace that can be considered a real signature.
Interpreting the welding as a sort of jewel that follows the joints of the objects allows the object to pay tribute to the craftsmanship used in the production.
Eliminating these "precious smudges" would certainly have lost an important piece of the essence of this furniture.
The XS collection has an bold volume without weighing down the shape thanks to the skilful balance of curves, while the boxed sheet metal structure guarantees resistance and lightness to the objects.
