For Scaglione’s new Milanese store in Piazza Wagner, CARA \ DAVIDE conceptualised a minimal and warm interior, characterised by a ribboning rail in a red-toned hardwood that wraps around the space, a soft material and texture palette for the surfaces and custom made architectural features in the brands own knit material, visually emphasising their craftsmanship and quality through a tactile experience.

The interior was stripped back to its original state, revealing high ceilings and fully exposing the windows to maximise natural light. The original architectural layout consists of two rooms connected by a narrow passageway, which has been transformed into a feature through the unconventional use of the brands soft boucle yarn. Custom-made in-house with specialised machinery, this yarn is crafted into seamless knitted tubes that line the passage walls, creating a cosy and tactile experience.

The surfaces of the space are conceived as a cohesive enclosure of warm materials, neutral tones and soft textures that add depth and cover all the vertical and horizontal planes. The interior shell serves as a backdrop for the characteristic red hardwood rail that wraps around the perimeter, curving around corners and softening the geometry of the interior whilst creating a strong visual identity for the store and the hanging product.

The entrance room is further distinguished by a bold drawer console in a cool violet-grey, housing the cash desk and work surfaces. This minimal, rational furniture piece contrasts with the softness of the surrounding interior and the shelving units, which have subtle organic edges. Two types of high density natural fibre boards are used for the furniture, their borders exposing the fibrous texture of the industrial material, echoing the soft texture of the linoleum flooring. Natural stone offcuts placed beneath the rail for product display add a touch of prestige through their textured surfaces.

The second room is smaller and more intimate, accessed through the cozy and tactile passageway, and is characterised by a floor to ceiling installation of the same boucle tubular feature, this time enclosing the changing rooms. A volumetric mirror block with a sharp, clean profile is mounted to the wall, contrasting the predominant soft fabric in the space.
